Next up for .NET – the Dynamic Language Runtime

Microsoft's Jim Hugunin reports from MIX07 that the .NET Framework is gaining new support for dynamic (read: scripting) languages such as Python or Ruby. The Dynamic Language Runtime (DLR) is an extension to the CLR that adds the features important to such scripting languages, such as dynamic typing.

Updates for the Game Explorer article

My article on Game Explorer and XNA has been updated, just slightly. This update has been some time in coming, although it doesn't include all the information I was hoping. Check it out and see if you can tell what the changes are!

My computer has died

A sad thing happened to me yesterday at TOJam. My computer, which I had brought to the event, died. After several minutes of investigating why it wouldn't turn on, the PSU let out a loud pop and bright spark, and I quickly pulled out the power cord. Because of this, for the next while I won't be able to do any programming.

White is the new Black

Via Slashdot, news comes about an HBO exec saying that DRM needs a new name. Not only that, but the name that CTO Bob Zitter suggests is laughably Orwellian – "Digital Consumer Enablement". As DRM is anything but empowering, it's obvious that this is one of those many cases where someone tries to cheat others by playing some mind games. Like a drug dealer who makes up a new name for an old substance, it's nothing more than a ruse.

I'd suggest reading the comments on the Slashdot article – the folks there do a much better job of showing up this bald-faced lie than I ever could.

Meldstar Entertainment: Officially Kaput

Meldstar Entertainment, the "group" that I attempted to organize for game development some five or six years ago, is finally pining for the fjords. It took me a while, to finally put up the death notice on the Meldstar website, but I've gone and done it. Hopefully now I will finally start putting the Death Cake Games website.

Should I become an author?

Since my game development isn't going anywhere right now, and because I keep getting big ideas that would require standard industry budgets to turn into actual games (money which, due to it's high seven-digit figure I don't have), I'm wondering if I should take these neat worlds that exist in my head and commit them to paper. These ideas range from an Evangelion-like dystopia to Tolkienesque high fantasy.

Fluix release 4 is out!

Yesterday, Fluix release 4 was set loose upon the world. With this release, Fluix finally works with the XNA Refresh, although there are still issues with audio. This release also includes the source for Fluix. If you'd like to add Flash to your game projects, you can download Fluix here.

I survived Anime North 2007

Another year, another Anime North. And this one was, at least for me, the craziest one yet. About all I can say without ranting for half an hour is that I survived, and live to see another year. Oh yeah, and that I can't wait for next year's!
