Making sexier themes
If you've been paying way too much attention to my website lately (and I'm sure you haven't) you might have noticed that I've been fooling around with different themes, looking for one to replace the current Garamond theme that currently defines the look and feel of coldacid.net. The thing is, while Garamond was okay when I first started using it, it's lately started to feel somewhat of an albatross. (And it doesn't help that almost every LCD monitor I've ever dealt with more or less washes out any of the theme details, either!)
The problem is, there aren't that many attractive themes available for Drupal 5, and since theming is still somewhat of an esoteric art with Drupal, it's not the easiest thing for someone with a lot of other tasks to work on. The easiest way to make a theme is to make simple modifications to someone else's prebuilt theme.
For now I'm going to stick with Garamond, although in the near future I'll hopefully stumble across a nice, three column floating theme that doesn't make everything lowercase, or cover my name with the site's main menu. And when Drupal 6 is out and ready, hopefully it will bring with it an easier way to put together themes.
It had better.
