Looking to the future in District 60

I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity this weekend, one I'm glad I took. My mother (who is a member of two Toastmasters clubs in the London area) was attending the District 60 spring conference, and so did I. It was the first, and until I get my DTM award, the last, Toastmasters conference I've shared with Mom.

The reason for this is because the district is splitting in twain, as of July 1. The western and northern parts will be the new District 86, while Toronto through Belleville remain 60. So we will be in different districts come the summer.

However, I'm looking to the future. I'm planning to be one of the area governors for the 2008-2009 term, with any luck in the new area 23 (formerly 38), the area of my home club, Toast IT Toastmasters. Perhaps in 2009-2010 I'll be a division governor, and keep climbing the ranks. We'll see.

I had a great weekend in Richmond Hill, for the historic final conference of District 60 as originally created. And I look forward to the opportunities available in November, when we'll have the new district 60's fall conference in Oshawa.
