Writing is difficult.
I've got a few writing projects on the go right now, all of them going slowly and poorly:
- Website proposal for my Toastmasters club, to be presented as a speech on Tuesday,
- An article on .NET memory management (sure it's garbage collected, but that just means it'll thrash memory if you're wasteful), and
- An article explaining my political views.
On top of this, I plan to post a flashfic every week until November in preparation of NaNoWriMo. Compounded on this is my current duty to translate technical documentation from real English to simple English, as well as practically every translatable statement in Drupal and CiviCRM. *Sigh*
The problem is that while I'm good at talking (some might say too good) writing text (as opposed to code) has never really come naturally to me. So it's pretty much a learning experience for me every time I put pen to paper, or type away at the keyboard. I've put out some pretty neat stuff, but for every great article, blog post, or speech I've written, there's ten or twenty examples of abysmal prose that I shudder to even remember.
In almost every case (my attempts at fiction not included) I know exactly what I want to say. And most of the time, I can express it in conversation. But most writing isn't conversation. And I find it difficult to express ideas or opinions that would slide off my tongue like an oiled rocket.
We'll see how things go. I've got some other writing projects coming up in the very near future (I'm simply waiting on some material to be sent for me to review) and hopefully that will turn out pretty good.
