Same Toastmasters club, new Toastmasters name

It's been taking a little while to press forward, but Toast IT Toastmasters has become Toronto Go-Getters Toastmasters! This is the club I belong to. As I already stated, it's taking us a while to get everything over to the new name, despite having the name for three weeks, now.

Goodbye, Bill C-61?

Given the way the political currents are currently going here in Canada, it seems pretty unlikely that bill C-61 will get anywhere. After all, bills and other government business are dropped when parliament is prorogued. And it seems we'll be headed for a federal election this fall, probably on

    Why Solitaire Sucks

We've all played Solitaire. Except for the very youngest of us, probably played it with cards instead of (or, as well as) on the computer. It's a good way to lazily blow some time when you're bored and alone. But the game sucks.

Games for Windows LIVE may be free for most users, but not for XNA developers

Microsoft's Games for Windows LIVE service used to cost money, but as Engadget reported back in July, it is now free.

Zemanta? Looks nice, do I want to use it?

I recently heard of, and looked at Zemanta, a blog enhancement service with various features I can use via Live Writer, Drupal, or both. I’m considering making use of it, but before I actually do, I’d love to get opinions from those who do (or have) used it. What do you think of Zemanta?

I for one welcome our new robo-spider overlords.

The robo-spider lies in wait... For Friday. Gizmodo reports and shows us a gigantic, 50 foot robotic spider posed to strike Liverpool, UK at the end of the week. It won’t be long before its compatriots arrive here on Earth, and commence attacks against other targets around the world. One thing is for certain: there is no stopping them; the spiders will soon be here. And I for one welcome our new robo-spider overlords. I’d like to remind them that as a trusted blogger, I can be helpful in rounding up others to toil on their fibre optic webs.

I wonder what brave soul ventured close enough to the spider to interview it and get that prospective date of attack. He or she must be very brave.

    Microformat madness, and introducing Zemanta

I’ve been going through some of the older blog posts on the site, as well as some of the other pages here, with a purpose.

Inches away from leaving Facebook forever

Image representing Facebook as depicted in CrunchBase

    Image via CrunchBase, source unknown

Yeah, I admit it. I use Facebook. But as they plan to switch over to their widely panned new design without option for anyone to keep the old, I’m just inches away from deleting my account and not using Facebook again. That design is broken, unhelpful, and confusing to a lot of people. It takes away most of the control I have over my profile, and what little it gives back is entirely ridiculous.

About to go offline for a while…

It’s not by choice, but I’ll once again be rarely online. In fact, for this next while, it’ll be less common than when before I got internet at home. I don’t know how often I’ll be able to get online, but as for the circumstances surrounding this, I have to admit I should have seen it coming. But that’ll likely give everyone a different, and wrong, idea of said circumstances, so just pretend I never said that. Pretend I said I have to go undercover and infiltrate some evil society or something. That’s a lot cooler, and better, than the truth, which as usual, sucks.

When will Windows Photo Gallery support XMP in PNG and GIF images?

    Extensible Metadata Platform

    Image via Wikipedia

Windows Photo Gallery has great metadata support. It supports hierarchical tagging, makes it easy to rename and caption photos, and even allows for adjusting the date and time that a photo was taken. For all this, it rocks, especially if all you have are JPEG images.
