I thought that too, until I saw them. When you get over a million hits a month, a list of all the referrals is just a giant pile of noise. I haven't bothered analyzing the referrals because I have other things to do in my spare time that are more interesting.

Search results leading to my site are a bunch of noise, especially those results generated by Live Search. On the other hand, actual referrers (not search results) seem to be pretty light, and while that doesn’t let me know about every site that links to mine, it at least lets me know that some people actually bother to do that.

TL;DR: I want more people to link to my site.
