Plinky: a toy for bloggers, but not all that useful
Launched just a day ago was Plinky, a service that bills itself as "a service that makes it easy for you to create inspired content". I heard about it on FriendFeed, and based on the promotion of the service, believed it to be a tool for helping bloggers with writer's block. Obviously, I signed up within minutes of its official launch.
Turns out that Plinky, while a very interesting service, isn't actually all that helpful as a tool for bloggers. It's pretty much a blogging site of it's own, taking Twitter's infamous question, "what are you doing?" and replacing it with a different question each day.
That is kind of neat. But it strikes me as more of a MySpace or Facebook kind of thing, not really something that would help someone try and break through writer's block on a more serious blog. Examples of Plinky's questions include "if you were a famous rapper, who would be in your posse?" and "defend your vice." Perhaps one question, of the seven currently available (six came at launch, and a new one is added each day) would actually be something that might help someone do a bit of serious blogging, asking about how the user entered the workforce.
While Plinky is certainly an interesting service, and one I might start playing with, it's not something that will help you improve the quality of your blog. At least, not yet.
