social media
Finally, Taskerrific is live
It took long enough, but in my defence, I'm only one guy. But yeah, Taskerrific is up and in private beta, although it feels more like an alpha release to me.
Do any of us really know what we're doing?
Image via Wikipedia
Who here actually has a real clue about what they're doing in social media? I'm not talking about that ado from months ago about people claiming to be social media experts when they were no such thing. I'm talking about us folk who are starting social media ventures, the people who fund us, etc. Who knows where this crazy ride is leading us?
The numbers game and asocial media
When is social media no longer social? When you're playing it for the numbers. It seems the great promises of social media have fallen by the wayside, as users play a game of one-upmanship with each other, trying to have the most followers, tweets, comments, what-have-you. You know what? That's not social media. That's asocial media.
Hashtags are dead. Long live real-time search and filtering!
I don't know if Scoble will beat me to the punch (he's blogging this too) but I got to say this: You don't need hashtags any more. The reason? Real-time search and filtering exists and works well in the places where hashtags are primarily used. If you don't get it, dwell on that for a bit. Once it sinks in, you'll know.
The business plan and social media
Where are the business plans for social networking & social media ventures? Do any exist? Really? Because I keep hearing how they're needed, but never any evidence that they exist.
Speed bumps on the road to Taskerrific's success
Since the beginning of the week, I've been part of a small business startup program. It's got a five week in-class portion, which began Monday, where the people in the program learn how to assemble a business plan. The program is really geared towards local, home based businesses such as housepainters and furniture refinishers. Taskerrific is their first view of a social media service.
Protecting your tweets is meaningless; you can be read on Twitter Search or Google anyway
Will social media survive the global recession?
Sorry to be such a downer, but with even my own optimism about the markets beginning to flag, I've begun to ask this question. As funding dries up and businesses close, what will happen to the world of social media?
Angry Dreamhost customers share their frustrations on Twitter
Have you heard of Dreamhost? It's a company offering inexpensive web hosting options. A lot of organizations use Dreamhost to host their websites and provide email services, among other things. This website, too, is hosted by them. Unfortunately, their service record is far from good, but they've usually kept everyone up to date whenever there were problems.
Guess what? They aren't doing that right now, and customers are angry. And they're talking.
Taskerrific: The easy way to manage your tasks!
At long last, I'm announcing my social media project, Taskerrific. I decided that things have progressed to the point where I'm better served letting everyone know about it (and have you ensure I get it complete) rather than keep it secret and allow it to be easily cancelled.
