Toastmasters

A day I hoped would never come

After over two and a half years with Toronto Go-Getters Toastmasters (since back when it was known as Toast IT) I'll be leaving the club at the end of 2008. Toronto Go-Getters was my first Toastmasters club (at least, the first I joined as a member) and it's been a fun trip with them.

Putting together a display table for your Toastmasters club: A great way to provide information and keep members updated!

Shortly after the last time I blogged about the display table at Toronto Go-Getters, it changed again, but only slightly. So I’m taking this opportunity to present for the third time our display table, and tell you how to arrange one for your Toastmasters club.

The display table, Mk 2

Back in July, I blogged about the display table at Toronto Go-Getters (back when it was still Toast IT). I’ve got some updated shots of the table, that I’d just like to share.

Looking to the future in District 60

I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity this weekend, one I'm glad I took. My mother (who is a member of two Toastmasters clubs in the London area) was attending the District 60 spring conference, and so did I. It was the first, and until I get my DTM award, the last, Toastmasters conference I've shared with Mom.

I've got my Competent Communicator award!

This is a bit old in the telling, but my Competent Communicator award from Toastmasters came in the mail yesterday, along with two Advanced Communication manuals. I completed my ten speeches at the end of September, but getting my award application in was somewhat delayed, leading to the reception of the award and manuals being about a month later. (On the other hand, two weeks is the shortest time I've seen Toastmasters International ship something this big!)

10 speeches done, a lifetime to go!

At last night's Toast IT meeting, I finally completed my Competent Communicator manual, giving an insprational speech almost off the cuff to complete project 10. I knew what I wanted to say, but I couldn't figure out how to express it when preparing the speech, so when I stood up to present, everything just came out unprepared. And yet, brilliance! I was amazed at how well it came out. Although it wasn't perfect (no speech ever is) I think I did a great job for a speech with very little preparation.

So there's the dirty...

Over at TIGC, we've announced new dates for the conference. It's been a while in the works, but all sorts of logistical issues (as well as issues with Toast IT) have been holding up the arrangements and announcement. I'm glad that it's finally out of the way, but there's more to come on that front, as well as for Toastmasters.
