Now, downloads are working...

Or at least some of them are. Unfortunately I've had to put Drupal's download method to public as well as change some other things around to do it. So, now I can't keep track of downloads until I figure out just what is broken this time with Drupal. I swear, if I had the option to switch to a self-built ASP.NET site, I'd do it in half a second. Drupal is really becoming too much of a pain for me.

File downloads busted up, again.

Drupal seems to have a recurring problem where the file system just doesn't want to work. It's getting to the point where I'd suggest people to use custom solutions (or another CMS) instead. Given that, it's not surprising that downloads are broken on this site again, and until Rob and I get it fixed, if you're looking for any of the downloadable content (projects or article attachments), you'll just have to sit tight for a bit. Sorry!

What's up, pussycat? Whoa oh oh...

While I've not been able to do much development lately, things have been keeping me quite busy recently. With the computer I'm currently using, it takes a lot to do a little, but I am getting a bit of work done on my projects (mainly redesigning them since I've given up all the old code for dead). I've also been doing a bit of work on the site, such as adding Twitter support (check out the Current Activity section on the sidebar), and figuring out how to package Freebasic for distribution with Ubuntu.

Now available for mobile phones

Well, coldacid.net is now cleanly accessible by mobile phone. Since I've been using my phone's browser more often these days, I figured that it would be useful to add mobile support to the site, and thanks to the assistance of my friend Rob it's now possible! The mobile version of the site is at m.coldacid.net.

Working the Blogroll and adding FeedBurner support

I've done a bit of work on the site today, changing what feeds are aggregated for my blogroll (see the Syndicated block on the sidebar). I've also added the FeedBurner module to the site for tracking the main feed, blog feed, and the new articles feed. In the near future (perhaps tonight or tomorrow) I'll also put up the feed counters, although the numbers will be disappointingly low (at least to begin with).

Want my Links page? You can have it!

Faster than you can say CMS, I've put together an article demonstrating how to add a simple yet elegant hierarchical links page to any Drupal site. All it takes are a few good modules, a bit of elbow grease, and some sites you want as links!

A whole new look

I've gone and redesigned the look of the site. I was getting tired of the cramped and stuffy feeling of the previous design, especially with the overflowing sidebars. Now, the site's slimmer, less cluttered, and much sleeker in appearance. There's still a couple things to work out (such as the header image) but it's still pretty sweet like this!

Yes, we have AdSense

Because of my general lack of cash, and the expenses I accrue in life and for my development, I've finally gone and added Google AdSense to the site. For now the ad links will likely be detached from the site content, but things should be improving, with ads closer to the site context soon. I'm actually a bit surprised that they aren't to begin with, as Google has been indexing coldacid.net since I bought the domain. I might stick the old PayPal donation button on here like I used to have on this site's predecessor. Of course, donations of up-to-date hardware and software (legitimate, postage and customs paid) is always appreciated more than cash itself. Sorry for attempting to cash in.

Meldstar Entertainment: Officially Kaput

Meldstar Entertainment, the "group" that I attempted to organize for game development some five or six years ago, is finally pining for the fjords. It took me a while, to finally put up the death notice on the Meldstar website, but I've gone and done it. Hopefully now I will finally start putting the Death Cake Games website.

My continuing fight against spam

As part of my continuing battle against comment, trackback, and feedback spam on this site, I've instituted captchas against anonymous users. Unfortunately while the spam module for Drupal did a decent enough job of getting rid of comment spam, it hadn't done enough to stop trackback spam and absolutely nothing for feedback spam. Blocking two IP ranges from which most of it came certainly helped but the problem is returning.
